Small Batteries for Essential Electronics
Button cell batteries are the small, unseen heroes that power much of the equipment we take for granted in the workplace. They are found in everything from car keys and access cards to kitchen scales, calculators, and computer motherboards. At Tingstad, you’ll find a wide selection of button cells from reliable brands such as GP, Varta and Energizer, ensuring you can quickly replace a battery when important equipment stops working.
Guide: Which Button Cell Battery Should I Choose?
There are many designations, but it’s usually the chemistry and size that determine which one you need. Here are the most common types:
- Lithium (CR series, 3V): The flat, coin-shaped batteries. The most common types are CR2032 and CR2025. These are used in devices that require high performance and long battery life, such as car keys, heart rate monitors, and backup memory in computers.
- Alkaline (LR series, 1.5V): Often slightly thicker “buttons”. The most common is LR44 (also known as A76 or V13GA). Frequently used in toys, thermometers, and basic electronic devices.
- Silver Oxide (SR series, 1.55V): Often referred to as watch batteries (e.g. SR626SW). They provide a very stable voltage and are used in precision instruments and wristwatches.
A Smart Trick for CR Batteries
If you don’t know which battery you need but still have the old one, lithium batteries reveal their size in the name. A CR2032 is 20 mm in diameter and 3.2 mm thick. A CR2025 is the same diameter (20 mm) but thinner (2.5 mm). Always check the device manual, as a battery that is too thick can damage the electronics.
