Choose the right cart

In our assortment, you will find several trolleys that fulfill different types of needs at workplaces. We have put together a simple guide below to make it easier to find a cart that suits you and your business.

WHEELS

Wheels are one of the most critical components of a cart. They affect the load capacity, maneuverability and noise level of the wagon. A benchmark is that the heavier the load you transport, the bigger and rougher the wheels you need on your cart.

Here are some questions you need to answer:

  • How much weight must the cart be able to handle?
  • What surface will the cart roll on?
  • Will the cart be used indoors or outdoors?

MATERIAL

The context and environment in which the cart will be used are very important when choosing a cart. Specific work environments place unique demands on a trolley. Examples are restaurant environments that may impose special hygiene requirements and that the cart must be made of stainless steel.

There are also businesses where protection against static electricity is needed. Then carts that are approved for use in ESD-protective environments are required. Always check that the cart is ESD approved before purchasing a cart for such environments.

When transporting heavy goods, it is required that the trolley is adapted for this. This means, among other things, that there must be the right wheels, the right wheel placement and a robust and durable construction on the cart. Therefore, check the cart’s maximum load before buying a trailer to transport heavy goods.

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • What will the cart be used for?
  • In what environment will the cart be used?
  • Does the work environment make demands on the cart?

CARGO SPACE

The type of lead or goods to be transported determines the need for space you need. You must not only have room for the load, but it must also be able to be transported stably and safely.

If you need a flexible solution, choosing a cart that can be adapted is good. Examples of this could be carts with movable shelves. It is worth considering that such solutions can affect the load.

Here are some questions you need to ask yourself regarding cargo space:

  • How much load does the cart need to withstand?
  • Should shelves be moveable?
  • Does the cart need walls on one or more sides?

Short about wheels

Wheels on carts are a science in and of itself, but some simple basics can be good to know when choosing wheels:

  • Big wheels roll easier than small wheels.
  • Hard wheels have lower rolling resistance compared to soft wheels.
  • On soft floors, hard wheels work the best.
  • On hard floors, soft wheels work the best.
  • Double wheels turn more easily compared to single wheels.
  • Wheels with soft treads dampen vibrations better compared to hard wheels.

MATERIAL

You choose the material of the wheel based on the weight capacity of the cart you want. Here are some rules of thumb:

  • Wheels made of Polypropylene are suitable for small carts
  • Polyamide/”nylon” wheels are a strong material that can handle loads of several hundred kilos.
  • For cumbersome tasks, aluminum, steel or cast iron are recommended.
