Which Laminating Pouches Should You Choose?

The most important thing is to select the right size and thickness for the material you plan to laminate. Also ensure that the pouches are compatible with your laminator, both in terms of format and the maximum film thickness the machine can handle.

Laminating Pouches in A4, A3 and Smaller Sizes

A4 laminating pouches are suitable for standard documents, instructions, menus, and information sheets. If you need to laminate larger signs or printouts, A3 is usually a better choice.

For smaller items, laminating pouches are also available in A5, A6, and other compact sizes, making them ideal for cards, labels, and small information signs.

What Does Micron Mean for Laminating Pouches?

The thickness of laminating pouches is measured in microns (µm). The higher the value, the thicker and generally more rigid the finished laminated document will be.

Common thicknesses include 80, 100, and 125 microns. A thinner pouch may be sufficient for everyday documents, while a thicker option is better when the material needs to be sturdier and withstand frequent handling.

Keep in mind that the micron rating is typically stated per side. A laminating pouch rated at 2 × 80 microns consists of two film layers, each 80 microns thick.

Always check the maximum pouch thickness supported by your laminator before ordering.

Matte or Glossy Laminating Pouches?

Glossy laminating pouches provide a shiny finish that enhances colours and images. They are a good choice for signs, photographs, and presentation materials.

Matte laminating pouches create a more subdued finish with reduced glare. This can be beneficial for documents and information materials that need to remain easy to read under bright lighting conditions.
