Lanyards for ID Cards, Access Cards and Keys

Which lanyard should you choose?

There are a few things worth considering before choosing a lanyard. Most importantly, think about what will be attached to it and how it will be used. An access card that is scanned several times a day places different demands on a lanyard than a name badge that only needs to be visible during a conference.

Lanyards with carabiner clips or badge clips

Lanyards with a carabiner clip are a good option when you need to attach and remove keys or card holders easily. Models with badge clips are well suited for name badges and visitor passes.

Check which type of attachment is compatible with the card or holder you plan to use.

Lanyards with badge reels

If an access card is used frequently, a lanyard with an integrated badge reel can be a practical choice. The retractable cord allows you to present the card to the reader without removing the lanyard.

Separate badge reels are also available and can be combined with other attachment solutions.

Lanyards for staff and visitors

In workplaces where ID cards must be visible, lanyards can make it easier to distinguish between employees and visitors. Available options include lanyards labeled Staff and Visitor, as well as models in different colours.

Consider adding an ID card holder if the card needs protection from scratches and wear. Be sure to check that the holder's attachment is compatible with the lanyard.

Safety breakaways and other details to check

Will the lanyard be used in an environment where it could catch on equipment or objects? If so, it is important to check whether the model includes a safety breakaway clasp that releases under tension. Not all lanyards offer the same safety features.

Also consider the width, length, and attachment type of the lanyard. If you are purchasing lanyards for a large number of employees, it may also be worth comparing pack sizes, as some models are sold individually while others are available in multipacks.
