Which Highlighter Should You Choose?

Most highlighters work well for marking text in books, notes, and printouts. The main differences are the color, tip width, and the type of ink used.

Fine or Broad Tip?

A highlighter with a broad tip is ideal when you want to highlight entire lines of text. For smaller text, tables, and detailed work, a narrower tip may be easier to use.

Many highlighters feature a chisel tip. By changing the angle of the pen, you can create both broad and fine highlights with the same marker.

Highlighters in Different Colors

Yellow is a popular choice for highlighting text, but highlighters are also available in colors such as pink, green, blue, and orange. Multiple colors can be useful if you want to distinguish between different subjects, tasks, or items that require follow-up.

If you use highlighters frequently, a multi-color pack can be a practical option.

Consider the Paper and Ink

Not all highlighters perform the same way on every surface. On thin paper, the ink may sometimes bleed through, and some highlighters can smudge handwritten or printed text.

If you plan to highlight freshly printed documents or handwritten notes, it may be a good idea to test the pen on a small area first, especially if you are unsure how the ink will react.
