Se sortimentWe have celebrated Easter in Sweden since the 12th century and what is most associated with Easter these days is not necessarily Jesus but eggs, tasty food, sweets and socializing with loved ones. This year Easter is celebrated in April but the date for the Easter holiday vary from year to year. This depends on a rule established at a church meeting in year 325. The decision at the meeting was that Easter should fall on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the equinox.
According to calculations we eat 6 million eggs per hour in the western world during Easter Eve. But how come we eat so many eggs in Easter? The reason that Easter is the great egg festival is partly due to the fact that it was forbidden to eat eggs druing the fast which ended at Easter and due to the lighter days that make chickens lay more egg. The egg ban before Easter resulted in an excess of eggs and people could eat almost as much as they wanted.
