Which LED Bulb Should You Choose?

When buying an LED bulb, it's a good idea to start by considering the fixture it will be used in. Check the base type, bulb size, and how much light you need. If you're replacing an older incandescent or halogen bulb, make sure the new light source is compatible with the fixture.

Different Base Types for LED Bulbs

There are several types of bulb bases. Two common options are E27, which is often used in larger fixtures, and E14, which is commonly found in smaller fittings and decorative lamps.

Brightness and Colour Temperature

The brightness of an LED bulb is measured in lumens (lm). The higher the lumen value, the more light the bulb produces. When comparing light sources, it is therefore best to focus on the lumen rating rather than the wattage.

Colour temperature is measured in Kelvin (K) and describes how warm or cool the light appears. Warm white light can be a good choice for restaurants, hotel rooms, and other environments where a softer atmosphere is desired. In offices and workplaces, a more neutral white light may be preferable.

Dimmable LED Bulbs

If you want to adjust the brightness, you should choose a dimmable LED bulb. Also make sure that the bulb is compatible with the dimmer used in the fixture.

Not all LED bulbs are dimmable, and a dimmable bulb does not necessarily work with every type of dimmer.
