Choose the Right Safety Boots for the Job

The best safety boots for you depend on where and how you work. On a construction site, puncture-resistant protection and good traction may be essential, while those working outdoors during winter may need to place greater emphasis on insulation and protection against moisture.

If you spend long periods walking or standing, it is also worth comparing the fit, weight, and cushioning of different models. Safety boots should not only provide the required protection but also remain comfortable throughout the entire workday.

What Do S3, S3L and S3S Mean?

Safety boots are classified according to EN ISO 20345. These markings indicate the protective features included in the footwear.

• S3: Includes a safety toe cap, protection against penetration from underneath, a water-resistant upper, and a cleated outsole.
• S3L: Offers similar basic protection to S3, but the puncture-resistant insert is made from a non-metallic material tested with a 4.5 mm test nail.
• S3S: Similar to S3L, but the puncture-resistant insert is tested with a thinner 3 mm test nail.

The appropriate class depends on the risks present in your working environment. Always check the product rating before making your selection.

Safety Boots for Cold and Wet Conditions

If you work outdoors, it may be worth looking for additional features such as cold insulation and waterproof protection. The CI marking indicates that the footwear has been tested for cold insulation, while WR means that the entire boot has been tested for resistance to water penetration.

Keep in mind that an S3-rated safety boot is not automatically fully waterproof or highly insulated. For work in rain, snow, and wet environments, you should always check which additional properties the specific model offers.
