Choose the Right Safety Sandals for the Job

Safety sandals can be a great option when working indoors or in warm environments where you want a more breathable shoe. Like other safety footwear, they feature a safety toe cap, but their more open design provides increased ventilation and comfort throughout the workday.

The right model depends on your work tasks. In warehouses and industrial environments, for example, puncture-resistant protection may be required, while other workplaces may have specific requirements regarding slip resistance or ESD protection.

What Do S1, S1P, S1PL and S1PS Mean?

Safety sandals are classified according to EN ISO 20345. These ratings indicate which protective features the footwear offers.

• S1: Safety toe cap, closed heel area, antistatic properties, and energy absorption in the heel.
• S1P: Includes the same basic features as S1, plus protection against penetration from sharp objects through the sole.
• S1PL: Features a non-metallic puncture-resistant insert tested with a 4.5 mm test nail.
• S1PS: Features a non-metallic puncture-resistant insert tested with a thinner 3 mm test nail.

Also Consider Fit and Working Environment

If you spend long periods walking or standing, it is important that the sandals fit well and provide adequate support. Consider how they fasten and adjust, the design of the outsole, and any additional protective features included.

Also remember that safety sandals are not suitable for every workplace. If the job requires more comprehensive protection against moisture, dirt, or mechanical hazards, another type of safety footwear may be a better choice.
