Guide: Paper and Paper Sizes.

Every day, thousands of letters are sent in Sweden. Although we have all sent an envelope at one point, it's not always easy to keep track of all the different options and sizes of envelopes available. To make things easier we have made a guide with information about envelope sizes, envelope types, sealing options etc. Everything to make it easier for you to find the right envelope.

ENVELOPE SIZES

Illustration-Kuvertformat.jpgIn Sweden, we have chosen to use the international standard for envelope sizes called ISO 269. This standard is designed to suit the most common paper sizes available on the market, eg. A4 etc.

In our range, we have chosen to offer the most popular envelope sizes on the market:

  • C4
  • C5
  • C6
  • E65
  • S65

So what do the terms above mean?

 FORMAT  SIZE

 USE

 C4   229x324 mm

 Fits an unfolded A4 sheet

 C5  162x229 mm

Fits an A5 sheet or an folded A4 sheet

 C6   114x162 mm

A smaller envelope that corresponds to a quarter of A4

 C7  81x114 mm

 E65   110x220 mm

Fits an A4 weight in three lengths

 S65   110x225 mm

SEALING

kuvertguide-forslutning.jpgWhen it comes to sealing envelopes, there are two options to choose from:

  • Adhesive seal
  • Gummed

The are two types of adhesive seal: self seal and peal and seal. The big difference between the two is that the peal and seal alternative have a protective strip to give the envelopes longer shelf life.

Gummed means that each envelope must be moisten to seal.

WINDOW ENVELOPES

Envelopes with windows are handy if letters with pre-printed addresses should be sent to the letters. The three most common window envelopes have the following designations:

  NAME

 WINDOW PLACEMENT

 H2

Window up to the right    40 - 44 mm from the top

 V2

Window up to the lef   40 - 44 mm from the top

 H3

Window up to the right    61 - 65 mm from the top

PADDED ENVELOPES

Padded envelopes are suitable for those who want to send fragile shipments and ensure that their items are protected against moisture, impact and damage throughout the entire delivery process. There are three types of padded envelopes:

  • Padded bag
  • Bubble bag
  • Bubble envelope

A padded bag features a protective paper barrier and is a sustainable choice for safeguarding your shipment against bumps and impacts.

Both bubble bag and bubble envelope have a protective interior made of bubble wrap, providing protection against moisture, impact and damages.

If you need to send flat or smaller items such as important documents, a bubble envelope is a suitable option to prevent moisture from seeping in. For larger shipments like samples, we reccommend choosing a bubble bag.

What are the dimensions of a C5 envelope?

The dimensions of a C5 envelope are 162x229 mm.

What are the dimensions of a C4 envelope?

The dimensions of a C4 envelope are 229x324 mm.

What is the most common envelope size?

For mailing letters and invoices, the most common envelope size is C5. The A4 sheet is folded once in the middle to fit.

What envelope size do I need for an A4 sheet?

An unfolded A4 sheet fits into a C4 envelope. If you choose to fold an A4 sheet in the middle, it also fits into a C5 envelope.

What is a padded envelope?

A padded envelope or a padded bag features a protective barrier that safeguards your shipment against bumps and impacts. Opting for this sustainable choice ensures secure transportation without any damages along the way.

In our range, we offer padded bags made of 100% recycled paper.

What is a bubble envelope and a bubble bag?

A bubble envelope or a bubble bag features a protected interior lined with bubble wrap, making it ideal for shipments that require protection against moisture and bumps during transport.

A bubble envelope is suitable for sending documents, photographs, or smaller items, while a bubble bag is better suited for larger items such as samples, spare part etc.

What is a gummed seal envelope?

The envelope can be sealed using the adhesive strip. You simply peel off the protective strip and then seal the envelope.

What is a self seal envelope?

The envelope needs to be manually sealed. The adhesive strip must be moistened before sealing the envelope.
